How did the Atlantic system affect Europe, Africa, and the Americas?
It is Hist 101 not Psychology
The network of trading links after 1500 that moved goods, wealth, people, and cultures around the Atlantic Basin defined what is known as the Atlantic system in intercontinental trade. It permanently changed societies across the continents of Europe, Africa, and North and South America, thereby increasing the control of globalization in the modern age.
Most influential was the triangle of trade of slaves and
precious indigenous commodities such as sugar from the West Indies,
gold from South America and Africa and slaves for plantations in
North America and the Caribbean from Africa Atlantic slave trade
not only established multiple industries of agriculture, but
significantly changed the economies of all the countries involved
including the United States, Britain, Netherlands, Portugal and
Spain. Within th United States, it led to a change in the
demographic as African slaves were found to be more affordable than
indentured labour or indigenous labour from Europe and NorthAmerica
respectively. The cotton and sugarcane agriculture industries, in
combination with further colonization transformed the land of the
Americas, and the impacted the dietary patterns across the world
with the import of crops like tomatoes, potatoes, coffee and cocoa
to Europe. The Atlantic Circuit gave rise to new developments
within the capitalist systems and mercantilist policies sought
greater autonomy and control in trade routes which provided
structure to trade, and securing the profits of both private
investors and nations. Thus, this led to the emergence of new
levels of power and interaction between the private and public
sectors and ultimately dileanating the cartography of the world
along which colony served as the market for which European
power.
