A board that is 20.0cm wide, 5.00cm thick, and 3.00 meters long has a density 340 kg/m3 . The board is floating partially submerged in water of density 1000 kg/m3. What fraction of the volume of the board is below the surface of the water?
In the given question, first archimedes principle is applied on the board which is partially submerged in water, then formula for the buoyant force is written and finally the fraction of the board under watere is calculated by deriving the last formula relating the densities of the board and water to the volume submerged and total volume of the board.
