essay about the impact of immigration on culture.
A very important phenomenon that all of us have been witnessing in the recent years, is that of globalization. Globalization is the process through which the world seems as one village, with boundaries becoming increasingly dull. But, one of the major impacts of globalization is that of immigration. It is not only the movement of goods that occur, it is also the movement of people that takes place.
In order for businesses to prosper, from knowledge to be exchanged and for better efficiency of work, people from different parts of the world move from one place to the other. When an organization deems the individual as being worthwhile, they tend to stay for a longer duration, thus, becoming an important part of a society that might be different from their native.
with the individual and his work, comes his family and people, who might have been from a different culture, and thus the process of immigration is born. It is important to understand that cultural relativism plays an important role over here. What might be normal and commonplace for people of one culture, might be completely alien to people of another culture.
when intermixing of these cultural ideas occur, we understand that globalization has happened in its true form. When immigrants blend into a society, there occurs a difference in the usual fabric of the society. New ideas emerge, new ways of living emerge, and with adaptation, either they completely blend in with the dominant culture, or the dominant culture incorporates in itself bits and pieces from the immigrant's Culture. thus, the existing culture expands to become a better version, an updated version of itself, much like a software.
