Calculate the pH and pOH of each of the following solutions.

- Express your answer to two decimal places. Enter your answers numerically separated by a comma.

-A) [H3O+]= 1.6×10−8 M

-B) [H3O+]= 1.0×10−7 M

-C) [H3O+]= 2.5×10−6 M

Solutions

Expert Solution

A) [H3O+]= 1.6×10−8 M

PH   = -log[H3O^+]

            = -log1.6*10^-8

             = 7.79

POH    = 14-PH

               =14-7.79   = 6.21

-B) [H3O+]= 1.0×10−7 M

PH   = -log[H3O^+]

            = -log10^-7

             = 7.00

POH    = 14-PH

               = 14-7.00   = 7.00

-C) [H3O+]= 2.5×10−6 M

PH   = -log[H3O^+]

            = -log2.5*10^-6

             =5.60

POH    = 14-PH

            = 14-5.60   = 8.40
