What does the American Dream look like in 2018? Does the American Dream even still exist? Why or why not?
ANSWER= For most americans, the American dream is an idea of tolerance and freedom of thought and speech that is at the center of our country's founding values. never mind all that about home ownership and corporate employment, this is the true american dream.
Today's American dream is being able to graduate from college with minimal debt, secure a job in your field that has benefits, be able to afford health care costs(while saving for retirement and paying down loans), and still live a comfortable life.
Unfortunately, this is very difficult to achieve, particularly considering our political climate. in fact, there is only one place in my life where i see this american dream prominently.
i live in columbus ohio and i attend a college prep high school that has kids from all over the city. as such, it has incrediable diversity.
in my humanities class, i truly see the american dream. we are all so diffirent, and yet we are all learning about the world together. we are a community of free humans working together. This is american dream.
Yes I do believe it is still attainable in 2018. however i also believe that those attaining it will be fewer and farther between. As things get more difficult even those with above-par intelligence and work ethic will find it harder to attain "the life" while wages are more or less stagnant, the cost of everything is rising fast.
So yes, the dream is still attainable but for increasingly more people it will remain just that -A Dream.
