1. If a computer app beats you every time you play chess, is the computer smarter than you? Does your computer think? Explain why or why not in detail.
Using artificial intelligence, a game tree can be designed for a chess game. This tree consists of all possible subsequent moves for every given move. Given a human being’s limited information processing capacity, access to such vast amounts of information is almost impossible. If chess with an app is played at highest level, this means that the computer is well aware of all of the human moves. In this case, it is almost impossible to beat the computer. However, if they level is reduced, there is an increased chance to win the game because this setting would block some of the paths of game tree. Now, the computer will not have access to all possible subsequent moves. Therefore, this does not make the computer any smarter than a human because it cannot think for itself. It is capable of complex information processing but relies on previously stored information about the game. If no game tree for the chess was constructed, a computer would never be able to beat a human.
