Advantages of living near a volcano:

• Volcanoes are geothermal resources which can be used to extract energy, which is very clean and inexhaustible.
• Volcanoes are tourist sites, hence they add to the local economical value. More tourism means more jobs.
• Volcanic activities lead to formation of beautiful landscapes for sightseeing.
• The soil near a volcanic region is rich in minerals and very well suited for agricilture.
• Volcanic areas contain a lot of minerals in abundance, hence they are of industrial importance as well.

Disadvantages of living near a volcano:

• Lava flows hamper transportation as they block roads, thus preventing essential services like ambulance and police from entering the region.
• The ash generated from lava eruption destroys the crop initially.
• Volcanic activities create earthquakes which might lead to tsunamis.
• Lava flow is dangerous and causes damage to house and livelihood.

Living near a volcano has it's own share of advantages and disadvantages. While volcanic regions are financially and commercialy viable,they do have a certain degree of risks involved. Living near a dormant volcano, however outweighs the disadvantages over advantages.
