Give a short but concise definition for, and indicate the environmental importance of any four of the following. (i) Sinks (not the kitchen variety) (ii) Radon (iii) Ozone depletion substance (iv) Soot (v) "end of the pipe" solutions
Sink: A sink is a reservoir that takes up a chemical element or
compound from another part of its natural cycle.
Importance: to decrease the changes in climate
Radon: A colorless, odorless, radioactive element in the noble gas group. It is produced by the radioactive decay of radium and occurs in minute amountsin soil, rocks, and the air near theground.
Importance: It is used as a source of radiation for the treatment of cancer and other diseases.
Ozone depletion substance: Ozone depleting substances are man-made gases that destroy ozone once the gases reach the ozone layer
Importance: These will destroy the ozone this is not the importance, but knowing of these substance we can avoid/ decrease the production of these substances and we can save ozone
Soot: Soot is a mass of impure carbon particles resulting from the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons.
Importance: Causes air polution, causes cancer and lung disease
