Gestational Hypertension also referred to as Pregnancy - Induced Hypertension is a condition characterized by high blood pressure during pregnancy. Gestational Hypertension can leads to a serious condition called pre-eclampsia. Hypertension during pregnancy affects about 6%_8% of pregnant women.

ROLE OF FAMILY IN PREVENTION, CAUSATION AND MANAGEMENT OF PREGNANCY INDUCED HYPERTENSION.

Family plays a major role in the life span of pregnancy of a woman. The family members should have an understanding of factors that leads to gestational hypertension.

PREVENTION AND CAUSATION

* If they are first time moms

* Women whose sisters and mother had previous history

* Women carrying multiple

* Women younger than 20 years of age and older than 40 years of age

* Women who had high blood pressure or kidney disease prior to pregnancy.

All these category pregnancy women has to at risk and regular monitoring is very necessary.

* At each prenatal checkups, make sure that your blood pressure and urine levels are monitored.

* Ensure that blood tests and ultrasound scan to monitor the baby growth has done.

* Do doppler scan to ensure the blood for to baby through placenta.

* Follow diet and exercises as doctor's instructions.

* Use salt as needed as for taste.

* Exercise regularly

* Family support is very important. Communicate in any needs.

* Increase the amount of protein rich foods and decrease fried foods and chunk foods

TREATMENT

Treatment depends upon how close are your due date to delivery. Family member should be conscious as due date nearby.

* Rest, lying on your left side to take the weight of the baby off your major blood vessels.

* Increase prenatal checkups.

* Consume less salt.

* Drink 8 glasses of water a day.

If you have severe Hypertension, your doctor may try to treat you with blood pressure medication until you are far enough along to deliver safely.

Thus gestational pregnancy is something which can prevent at the early stage itself.
