the child finally admit she does not want to be a girl but feels she should be a boy. what should the nurse do?
Since it look likes an opinion based question, I will try to answer it from my individual perspective. First of all, the nurse should should try to be as polite and kind as she could be. She should patiently listen to all the things that the child has to say about her fear, insecurities, challenges, limitations of being a girl and her will to be a boy. It will give a sense of relief to the girl and made her think that there is someone that she could share her feelings with. The nurse should try to build a relation of trust with the child and offer her company and opinion more as a friend. The nurse should tell her that she should not at all feel ashamed about sharing such thoughts as these are very normal in many of the kids. Every child is special in their own way and being a girl does not limits her from doing anything that boys are supposed to do. She can play sports, ride dirt bike and do many other stuffs like them. In facts, being a girl is a good thing as it adds versatility to an individual. She gets the chance to put on make up, do a lot of shopping, play with doll houses and wear so many beautiful dresses that boys do not get to wear and have only a limited number of styles. The nurse could further add things like these in order to make her happy and more lively. At last the nurse can add that when she will become a fully grown women, she will have the chance to bring someone into this world i.e to give birth to a baby and which is the most beautiful feeling one can ever have and the one feeling that a men could never experience. This sentence will help the child to understand the worth of being a girl.
