(Q#1) What did Second Wave Feminism get right?
Clearly, Second Wave Feminism had many problems and it’s often too easy to focus only on their shortcomings. What were some of their accomplishments? How important were these accomplishments to women? Why?
The second wave feminism could be
identified from around the 1960s to 1970s. The second wave feminism
tended to break from the pop culture of the americans. There could
be some new signs of rebellion coming up. Though not as successful
as the third wave, the second wave feminism highlighted some major
issues that women were facing. These included the discrimination
during employment, the pay irregularities, the inequalities faced
by women during the various legal processes. The support services
for women that was rather feeble in its efforts.
contrary to the first wave, the second wave brought about
discussions that were extensive, and made people to think. People
were made to think of what led to such widespread oppression of
women on different fronts. The questions that led people to the
search of answers of gender distinctions, how Power began to be
concentrated in the hands of men. Or questions which made people
think about the roots of how s-exual violence actually emerged.
Also, the second wave brought a new meaning to the term
liberation.
there were different kinds of feminists that emerged. The
individual ones blamed the government for their minimal efforts in
addressing issues of women. The separatists ones, that included
les-bian feminists, preached for separation of women from the men
in order to achieve liberation in its true sense.
this also led to separate streams, the liberals the pragmatic s and
the ones whose goals was to integrate women into power. Each of
them had their own ideas of how women liberation should happen in
the society and how the power driven women should look
like. The goal, however, was aimed to be at a more radical version,
dismissed from the shackles that had always been drawn.
