In the given pendulum, the force exerted by the string on the pendulum
is along the stdring ( hypoteneuse).

The force is resolved into two components one along the horizontal and the other along the vertical.

Now you can see clearly that the vertical side is adjascent to the angle ? and the horizontal is NOT adjascent to the angle.

Adjascent implies cos and hence the vertical component is F cos ?.
Then the horizontal one must be of sin.

Since the vertical component balances the weigth of the pendulum = mg

F cos ? = mg = 71*9.8 = 695.8

F = mg /cos ? = 71*9.8 / cos 8 = 702.63 N.

The horizontal component is F sin 8 = 702.63* sin8
=97.78N.

1. Vertical component is 695.N
2. The horizontal component is 97.78 N.
3. The tension or force along the string is 702.63 N
==================================

since the vertical component = the weight mg =695.8 N and
tan ? = horizontal / vertical component.

Horizontal componet = vertical * tan ? = 695.8* tan 8
=97.78 N.

97.78i+ 659.8 j

2.F=702.63=sqrt(Fx^2+Fy^2)

F=m*r*alpha

alpha=702.63/(71*10)=0.989 /s^2
