The biggest international cross-over in recent years was Gangnam Style, whose popularity was driven by YouTube and social media. Was Gangnam Style a one time thing or the trend of media industry internationalization? Or will the internet continue to introduce and catapult international content to global audiences? And does the media industry need to adapt to find the best talent around the world?
I think that Gangnam style was so popular because the trend of media industry is actually trying to make global impact and audience are no more limited to domestic environment, rather content are making and impact internationally just like Gangnam style which is one of the instances but there are various other instances as well where contents have been more popular in the international field. There is no doubt that even content with no quality at all gets popular because of some uniqueness like typically bad performance and sarcastic posts or comic incident but if we look at these contents, we will observe that quality is lacking but still they are popular because internet has helped such contents get popular.
The media industry actually need to adapt to find the best talent around the world because that will make the internet a deadly amenity for people having talents so that they can showcase their skills via internet. There is no doubt in the fact that internet has helped talents quite a lot to gain popularity and presence but it also needs to filter out the talents which has the potential to do big and not promote trash contents just to gain popularity.
