What were Mendell’s experiments? Explain the F0, F1, and F2 generations. What postulates did he form from these experiments?
Mendel experiments-
F0 (Parents) - TT X tt
T | T | |
t | Tt | Tt |
t | Tt | Tt |
All the plants were tall.
Mendel crosses F1 progeny again.
F1 generation - Tt X Tt
T | t | |
T | TT | Tt |
t | Tt | tt |
The phenotype ratio- 3:1
In the F2 generation, 75% of plants were tall and 25% of plants were dwarf. Ratio- 3:1
Only one copy of the dominant allele is enough to show a dominant phenotype. But two copies of the recessive allele are required for the expression of the recessive phenotype.
Law of segregation - This law states that only one copy of two gene copies transferred to a gamete at the time of gamete formation.
Law of independent segregation - This law states that allele pairs of different genes separate independently of each other.
