Your significant other is offered his or her dream job. Unfortunately, you have to re-locate to an area that does not have many opportunities for an IT Career. Could you be an effective telecommuter? Write a short paper describing what (if any) of your skills could be effectively used via telecommuting, and what you would need to do to be able to effectively work from home. Consider needed technology as well as a workspace.
For effecting WFH the following needs to be in place…
(a) Follow a routine: This is very important as working from home can be monotonous. Following a routine keeps zeal & interest high. This is essential for productivity and knowing what is to be done with outmost clarity. This behaviour has an economic value as unproductive WFH is not good for employee or employer(s).
(b) Define Target: The workforce working from home should have clearly established daily, weekly, monthly target. The progress should be measure and reported against the set parameters. This is an effective way of keeping employees working from home engaged.
(c) Regular Catch-up Team: ‘All business is personal’ this statement stresses upon the fact we should connect with people engaged with us. A regular meeting (bridge calls) every day shall help employees express the good and sour experiences of working remotely. This also envisages any challenges in hand & facilitates timely addressal.
(d) Stable & Dedicated Internet Connection: This is most important. Because all the work is online and in the absence of stable connectivity a communication gap will be created which is not helpful for workforce.
(e) Remote access collaboration tool: The need to have robust collaboration tool is greatly felt when employees are working for home. The may be needed to share financial plan, commercial presentation, budget ppts, sales report etc al these have an element of importance for business. The presentation from home may not be possible without the tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.
