Expert Solution

1. Describe a situation from work, school or personal life, where you have worked on a team.

In my B-school, during the training session we had an event function, 'XYZ'. there we are supposed to form a team of 5 members of our trainers choice. the members of our team is completely a stranger to each other. The theme of the event is 'business in a day'. which is we are supposed to start a business within a day using the resource which is commonly available in campus and nearby radius of 2km. the rules to take part in the business event is also list as follows

have to do the business within a specified region provided for each team.

no limitations to idea formation

should not get help any help from anyone out of the team.

should not imitate others ideas

the investment should not exceed Rs.1000

team should exhibit the management function in our business plan in different specialization like HR, finance, marketing, production etc. and the most important thing is we have to make profit

so, according the rules we have to implement a business within a short span of time. Due to the limitations and environment we decided to go for gaming.

2- Describe the forming and storming phases of your team's development.

Each and every stage of the business plays the important role for its betterment. The first and foremost phases of a team is FORMING.

In this stage, we got to know about who are our team members and we had a small introduction among ourselves. we were almost quite among ourselves. Because, we have no idea what we are going to do and from where to start. So decided to go get know each others strength and weakness, skills and area of specialization. It was very formal. Even after the entire discussion, we had no idea about our business plan. At last we decided to form a group in social networking app to pour out all our ideas so that we choose the best among the all and which will suits better to our team members interest

STORMING

we built a comfort zone among team members to express freely in our group in networking app and ideas started to flow out. Though we have never experienced the perfection of team member's work we were not able to decide who will take which part of work. So we divided the work into a part of 5 (create a game of our own as an individual, to get understand the trick as a expert) At this stage we worked as individual like a group rather than a team.

finally three of us came out with separate ideas and two of us weren't able to make it. At last we clubbed all the ideas into one as a single game ( have to write alphabets in reverse order within a minute, form 10 loops using rubber of your choice, arrange the glass in temple form and hit the glass from 10 feet distance. for each game people have to pay RS.10 as entry fee and if they won they can collect cash of Rs. 20 as a gift. If people would like to play all the games can pay Rs.50 and can collect Rs,100, if they won)

3- What actions could have been taken to make the team more effective during these phases?

To make a Team mor effective it is very important to have leader to direct the team in better ways. In our team we didn't have a thought of a leader and all us had different perspective about the task. It deviated us into different direction for a long period of time. So it is recommended to assign a leader in order to avoid such deviations in early formation stage.

The formation of good friendly relationship bond is foremost important thing to be considered once the team is formed to yield the best result. It will helps to determine the other important factors like team members skills, ability, etc. So that it may avoid unnecessary clash and conflict among the team members. A team without a leader will end up in dividend of group at once clash appears. So a leader with good understanding among the members are the important actions to be taken to make the team more effective during these stages. ie.., forming and storming
