Reflect on your revision process.
What are some strategies you use (even if you cannot put a name on it, try describing it for your classmates)?

Revision Strategies of Student Writers |
Revision Strategies of Experienced Writers |
Most of the student writers did not use the term revision or rewriting. In fact, they were not comfortable using these words.Rather they explained that the word “Revision” is being used by their teachers. |
Experienced Writers considered Revision as the process of finding the form or shape of their arguments. |
Most students developed various functional terms to describe the type of changes that they made |
Experienced Writers use structural expressions such as “finding a framework”, “a pattern” or a “design” for their arguments. |
Students understand the Revision Process as a re-wording activity. According to students revision process requires lexical changes but not semantic changes. |
The experienced writers see their revision process as a recursive process- a process with significant recurring activities-with different levels of attention and with different agenda for each stage of revision cycle |
The student s place a symbolic importance on their selection and rejection of words as the determiners of success or failure for their compositions |
Experienced writers have concern for readership. The experienced writer imagine a reader whose existence and whose expectations influence their revision process. |
For students writing is translating: the thought to the page, the language of speech to more formal language of prose, the word to its synonym. |
Experienced writes put emphasis on changing at sentence levels and the changes are predominantly by addition or deletion. |
2. According to Sommor in spite of differences in the Approaches of Revision Strategies adopted by student writers and experienced writers, revision strategies helps to maintain balance between competing demands and attention. Sommor also suggested that Student Writers need to seek the Dissonance of Discovery, utilize them in their writings as experienced Writers do.
3. These differences occur because the thinking process which originates from mind, the perception level and the approaches of student writers and experienced writers are different.
4. My Review process would be dependent on Readership values. I must be in a position to understand what a Reader wants and expects from Revision. Then Based on these inputs I will try to develop Revise strategies and will start working on the strategy.
