Ans. Define Life on Land: Protect, restore and pramote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustinably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. Human life depends on the earth as much as the ocean for our sustenance and livelihood. Forests cover 30 percent of the earth's surface, provide vital habitats for millions of species and important sources for clean air and water, as well as being crucial for combating climate change. A flourishing life on land is the foundation of our life on this planet. Sources from www.globalgoals.org.
Land effect production: Land in general terms includes the earth in which crops are grown and on which offices and factories are built. Besides the land itself, it also includes what is beneath the land, such as coal gold oil, what grows naturally on the land e.g. rainforest and the sea, oceans and rivers and what is found in them, for instance fish. The amount of physical land in existence does not change much with time. Soil errosion declining of rainforests are reduce the supply of land. Some are renewable resources like wind power, are replaced by nature and hence can be used again. In contrast non-renewable resources, e.g. gold and oil, are reduced by use. Most land is occupationally mobile, means that it can be used for number of purposes. Land currently used for farming may instead is used to built houses. Consequences of land consumption. The major effects of land conversion for economic growth are land degradation. Habitat loss-built up areas support only particularly adapted species. Soil degradation - loss or contamination of top soil by civilization waste and general pollution. There identified three land consuming activities: 1. The expansion of built-up area which can be directly mesured. 2. The absolute extent of land that is subject to exploitation by agriculture, forestry or other economic activities and 3.The over-intensive exploitation of land that is used to agriculture and forestry. According to McDonald et al. "urban growth reduces open space in and around cities, impacting biodiversity and ecosystem services. So in all the major effects of land consumption[conversion] for economic growth are Land degradation, Habitat loss, Soil degradation,Soil compaction nd Impervious surfaces.
Life on land. Protect, restore and pramote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertifiction, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. A flourishing life on land is the foundation for our life on this planet. Human life depends on the earth as much as the ocean for our sustenance and livelihoods. Plant life provides 80 percent of the human diet, and we rely on agriculture as an important economy resources. Around 1.6 billion people depend on forests for their livelihoods. Forests are home to more than 80 percent of all terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. 2.6 billion people depend directly on agriculture for living. Nature-bsed climate solutions can contribute about a third of CO2 reductions by 2030. Mountain region provide 60-80 percent of the Earth's fresh water. These sources are from www.undp.org. Finally Sustaining life on land means preserving and restoring terrestrial biodiversity and ecosystems such as forest, wetlands, grasslands, drylands and mountains hy halting deforestration, fragmentation and overgrazing and reversing desertification and land degradation.
