Expert Solution

● For designing a solid waste landfill such that it will maximize the methane gas production one should use a method in which Instead of escaping the methane into the air, it can be captured, converted, and used as a renewable energy resource.

By using this method helps it will reduce odors and hazards associated with foul gases and flammable gases emissions, and prevents various gases from migrating into the atmosphere and contributing to local smog and global climate change.

In addition, Land fill gas energy projects generate revenue and jobs in the community.

As in the above given figure the whole method is shown and it consist of three stages;-

1) Collection stage:- In this stage various gases like mainly methane is collected from land fills by pipe systems.

2) Processing:- In this stage the methane gas is saparated from other gases and purification is done.

3) Methane use:- This is the stage in which the methane is use in various places like in industries, fuel and for producing electricity.

Thank you.

Methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, is generated via the anaerobic decomposition of solid waste in landfills. A city starts a solid waste landfill that it expects to fill to capacity gradually over a 21-year period. At the end of the first year, it is 13 percent filled. At the end of the second year, it is 29 percent filled. Currently, the cost of closure and postclosure is estimated at $1 million. None of this amount will be paid until the landfill has reached its capacity. Which of the following is true for the Year 2 government-wide...

On January 1, 2017, the City of Hastings created a solid waste landfill that it expects to reach capacity gradually over the next 20 years. If the landfill were to be closed at the current time, closure costs would be approximately $1.50 million plus an additional $810,000 for postclosure work. Of these totals, the city must pay $58,000 on December 31 of each year for preliminary closure work. At the end of 2017, the landfill reached 2 percent of capacity....

Brown County operates a solid waste landfill for the citizens of the county. The following events occurred during the county’s fiscal year ended September 30. The county paid interest costs of $6,879,000; of this amount, $222,000 was required to be capitalized to construction work in progress. Amortization of bond premiums was $173,400. The county is self-insured through an internal service fund for workers’ compensation, automotive, and general liability insurance.
