How to convert cm⁻¹ to K (Kelvin) and cm⁻¹ to Oe (Oersted)? Which multiplier factor should we use for these conversions? (It is for Electro Spin Resonance Lecture, so i believe the answer will related to magnetic moment)

Solutions

Expert Solution

0.079577471545941 - cm⁻¹ can't be converted to K (Kelvin) cause cm is the is the unit of length, so cm⁻¹ is the unit of one upon length (1/length) whereas K (Kelvin) is the unit of temperature.

2- cm⁻¹ can't be converted to Oe (Oersted) cause cm is the is the unit of length, so cm⁻¹ is the unit of one upon length (1/length) whereas Oe (Oersted) is the unit of magnetic field strength .

One can only covert the units of the same physical quantity, for e.g.

time(t)- time has a SI unit Sec(Sec) , one more unit minute (60 sec) , one more unit is hour (60 minuts i.e. 60x60=3600 sec)

length(l)- length has a SI unit meter (m), one more unit cm (1m=100cm), mm etc. KM(1000m=1km).

one can't convert time(t) in the unit of length(l). similar is true in your case you can't convert  cm⁻¹ into K (Kelvin) or  Oe (Oersted) .

cm⁻¹ can be converted into (m=meter )m⁻¹ or km⁻¹ (kilometer). cause they are defining same quantity inverse of length.

K (Kelvin) is the unit of temperature it can be converted to degree Celsius (°C) by simply subtracting 273.15 from K (Kelvin) temperature and vice versa

formula

°C =K - 273.15 (you may convert °C and K using this )

Oe (Oersted) is unit magnetic field strength, which is also called magnetic field intensity or H-field .

1Oe=79.57747154594 amp/m

The H-field is measured in amperes per metre (A/m) in SI units] and in oersteds (Oe) in cgs units.
