Managing a diverse workforce is challenging task, especially in the context of effectuating change. Due to advancements of technology and rapid globalization, the world is getting smaller and workforce diversity is enriching the game.

Individual behaviour at workplace is influenced by many variables. Assuming you are serving as a senior consultant to a multinational company in a downsizing project (make the organization smaller by shedding staff) describe your suggestions with sufficient examples.

Being a senior consultant to a multinational company in a downsizing project where organization will be getting smaller in size and shed off staff, here, let me discuss my suggestions on managing diversified workforce, these suggestions are as stated below:

  • The first thing has to be done here by changing recruitment and hiring policies. The recruitment and hiring session should understand the needs and objectives of the work/project. They need to place policies and practices that will support hiring based on merit and remove any kind of prejudices and biases. For example: to support the cause like keeping diversified team and bringing more focus on hiring a candidate based on merit, we can build diverse interview panel, this panel will give absolutely no priority to race, religion, sex and national origin. Instead, they will evaluate a candidate based on their cognitive skills, experience level and ability to perform the job.
  • Organization should review their policies and practices over time; they should ensure that whether policies and practices are furnished not to favor any discrimination. for example: whenever policy maker prepare or add some policies, they should evaluate the impact and validity of each policies and how it brings favor to all the employees in organization. Again, every team members, leaders, managers should be encouraged to provide their opinion and feedback on implementing any policies.
  • My suggestion to maintain diversified workforce in downsizing project, leadership team should be encouraged to arrange diversity training program for each employees. As it could be happened that team members maintain poor behavior and trust on each other, as they may not be aware about the impact of poor communication. Hence, all team members should be given training to help them understand and respect any differences in race, cultural sides, national origin, religion, etc.
