Which of the following statements about angiosperm reproduction is FALSE?

  1. Animal pollination is more efficient than wind pollination

  2. Fruits increase the success of dispersal because animals consume the seeds can survive digestive tracts

  3. There is a diverse array of flower shapes and colors, largely related to the mode of pollination

  4. The pollen grain goes through lots of rounds of mitosis to become the fruit

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer - The pollen grain goes through lots of rounds of mitosis to become the fruit

Pollination is the process of transfer of pollen grains from anther of one flower to the stigma of either the same flower or the different flower. If it is the same plant then it is called as self pollination and if it is a different flower, then it is called as cross pollination.

First option is correct because there is very less wastage of pollen grain in case of animal pollination as compared to wind pollination on it is more specific.

Second option is correct because fruits are meant for the protection of seed and seed ensures continuation of generation.

Third option is correct because there are many different types of flowers each flower is pollinated by a different type of animal pollinated. The shape size and colour of the flower is determined by the type of pollinators.

Last option is incorrect because fruit is formed by the maturation of ovary and not pollen grain.

Classify the statements about asexual and sexual reproduction as true or false. Hermaphroditic organisms may self-fertilize to reproduce asexually or cross-fertilize to reproduce sexually. Offspring may be produced from vegetative tissues of the parent in asexual reproduction. On average, siblings produced asexually share about 50% of their DNA sequence with each other. A diploid parent always passes on two copies of its genes to its offspring during sexual reproduction. Harmful alleles may only be inherited by some offspring during sexual reproduction. Individuals may engage in costly...
