How can I find the enthalpy of neutralization for a given neutralization reaction? Is there a formula for this?

Solutions

Expert Solution

yes. there is formual and systamatic procedure is there for calculation of enthalpy of neutralization .

we have standard enthalphy values in the table form you can find any text book and online also . those are standard thermodynamic values

suppose . the reaction between NaOH and HCl

first write reaction .

NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) -----------------> NaCl (aq) + H2O (l)

Hneutralisation = Hproducts - Hreactants

                          = (HNaCl + HH2O) - (HNaOH + HHCl)

                         = (–407.3 –285.8) - (–469.2 –167.2)

                         = -693.1 + 636.4

                        = - 56.7 kJ / mol
