Solutions

Expert Solution

To better understand this you can use PheT simulation of Gas

Temperature: (Ans: C)  As the volume and number of particles are held constant , and gas is cooled. The temperature will decrease.

Mass:(Ans: B)As mass is the measure of how much matter is there in the object therefore as the volume of and number of particles are held constant therefore it will remain the same.

Volume:(Ans. C) As volume of the gas is indirectly proportional to the density of the gas therefore as the temperature will decrease the density of the gas will increase resulting in decrease of the volume of gas.

Avg. KE: (Ans. C) As the average kinetic energy of the gas is directly proportional to its temperature. Therefore as the gas is cooled the average kinetic energy will also decrease.

Avg speed: (Ans. C) As the average speed of the gas is also directly proportional to its temperature. Therefore as gas is cooled the average speed of the gas will also decrease.

Particles: (Ans. B) Remains the same. Given in question the number of particles are held constant

Collision per second: (Ans. C) As the gas is cooled the collisions per second will also decrease because the gas molecules will have less energy than before.

Pressure: (Ans. C) As gas is cooled the energy of the particle will decrease resulting in decrease in pressure of the gas, as gas molecules will hit the walls of container with less energy.
