Research onion aims to explain to the students the different stages of research.The research onion consists of 6 layers First is Philosophy which consisits of set of principles from which the conducting of research takes place.It is studied on the basis ontologyie authenticity of information and epistemologyie valid information needed for research.Second is choosing the approach . There are 2 methods the inductive method and the deductive method.Inductive method is based on observation and deductive method is based on specific hypothesis.Thirdly it is strategy,which is chosen on the basis of data required for the research .It includes action research,experimental research,interviews , surveys , case study etc.Fourthly it is choice of methods . There are different methods like mono method ie one , mixed method ie two , multi method ie many etc.Fifthly Time horizon which describes the time frame of the research.Based on time horizon there may be cross sectional and longitudinal observations.Cross sectional is used when observation is for a point of time and longitudinal is used when observation is for many years.Finally,Data collection and analysis is the final stage and describes the techniques and procedures used.
