The latter half of 2016 set the stage for the mass lay-offs of IT professionals in India. There was a considerable rise in unreasonable lay-off of mid-level employees in various IT companies like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant and L&T. The HR department was not considering any plea of the laid-off employees.

Seeing the trend, all IT employees had the fear of job security looming over their minds. In May 2017, the employees started thinking about creating unionization in IT sector for the white-collar employees.

In Jan 2018, first officially recognized IT trade union was registered in India. The objective of the union is to safeguard the jobs of IT professionals in India and avoid any unreasonable lay-offs in the industry.

Trade union becomes important to safeguard the rights of the employees and keep the vested interests of the company in check.
