Write four general principles to be observed while laying damp proof course.

Solution) The Damp Proof course is applied at various levels in a house to protect the house from outer environment like dampness due to water . Thus various materials are available to protection against various types of dampness at different levels like foundation, floor ,basement .Following are the four general principles while laying damp proof course-

1) The damp proof layer should be impervious such that no dampness or moisture can pass through it.

2) The damp proof layer should be strong and durable and is capable of withholding the dead and live loads without any damage.

3) It should be stable dimensionally and cover all the area required fro damp proofing.

4) The material should be free from any deliquescent salts that is the salts which absorb moisture and dissolved in air like sulphates , chlorides, nitrates and free from all these salts for better perfomamce of damp proof layer.
