SLO3- Explain how cultural ideas of marriage and family are shaped by the social structure.
This question is focused on two overall aspects reoccurring throughout the textbook: Culture and societal influences which are both combined influences in the Macrosystem. Look for the initial discussion in chapter one.
Decide on one specific example of culture then explain how those cultural ideas of marriage and family were influenced, shaped by if you will, the larger social structure.

Here we are not provided with the reference of chapter 1. Hence would give informtion base on my own knowledge. Th Macrosystem definately shapes our thoughts and views of marraige. In cultures the concept of same sex marraige is not permitted, the husband or male is considered as leader between husband and wife, they have more rights and more freedom as compared to women. This is the reason the family of bride has to bear all the marraige expenses, in some cultures giving more money to groom including dowary is still there.
Due to all these reasons above, some cultures do not want to have female child, they prefer a boy in their family. Naturally in such societies boys are given more respect, they are not told any household work.
These thoughts have much changed in western socities and then see men and women as paar, they see each other equally. They have liberal views and also accept same sex marraiage or relationship. They raise their kids equally and share responsibilities.
