It is known that 20% of all patients in a medical facility are allergic to a new medication. Doctors conduct a preliminary test to identify patients’ sensitivity to this medication. The test procedure has the following characteristics.
• For a patient with no allergic reaction, there is a 10% chance to be misidentified as allergic (false positive).
• For a patient with allergy, there is a 5% chance of recognizing this patient as having no allergy (false negative).
1. Given that a patient is diagnosed as non-allergic, what is the chance that he/she is allergic?
2. Given that a patient is diagnosed as allergic, what is the chance that he/she is allergic?
