Consider the phase diagram shown here. A sample of the substance in the phase diagram is initially at 120℃ and 925 mmHg. What phase transition occurs when a substance increases temperature at constant pressure?
gas to solid |
liquid to gas |
liquid to solid |
solid to liquid |
From the phase diagram, it is quite clear that, at 120 °C and
925 mm Hg, the substance is pure solid.
On increasing temperature keeping pressure constant, the substance
moves in a horizontal axis parallel to temperature axis, undergoes
a phase transition from solid to liquid.
