Differentiate between management researcher and academic researcher.
there are crucial differences between academic and management research.
(1) Academic research is scholarly research that takes up large problems and tries to find ways to solve those questions that add to the general understanding of the entire world. Management research has a more micro objective and it aims to find ways to solve a problem pertaining to an organization or industry.
(2) Nature of research: Academic researcher uses more conceptual tools, both theoretical and empirical to get the causal relationships correct. Management researcher majorly uses applied tools and data that more practically suits the organization's needs
(3) Time involved: A academic researcher can often spend months (and years) in pursuing a particular problem. Management researcher does not have that much time. they have to make use of opportunities as they arise and come up with an action plan within days.
(4) Accuracy: The academic researcher has a sole focus on the accuracy of the results. For instance, in economics, academic researchers aim to predict the results with 99% accuracy. In management research, this is not the case. A result that is deliverable with even 95% accuracy but in a shorter duration of time will be preferred.
(5) An academic researcher gains popularity by making his/her findings public. A management researcher often keeps the findings private and just helps the organization.
