Traditionally, the construction industry (compared to many other industries) has been slow at adopting new technologies. Why do you think this is the case? What can be done to change the trend?
In this regard I totally agree with the fact that construction industry is slow in adapting new technologies.
There are many factors due to which the advancement is slow in this field
1.our traditional building methodologies are so much popular that workers are well aware of old techniques.
2.It is largely self employed.
3.Introducing new technology into the industry is very slow because some elder engineers rely on their skill more than technology in making judgment and also it makes it easier to convey the information to the workers.
4.Changes are to be brought in whole system rather than change in the componentI.Ifwe bring a change in material or design technology we need to get skilled and trained labour also.
5.Getting connectivity on sites isn't as easy as we might hope but things are improving there. Half-built structures that are changing aren't the best wireless environments.
6.one of the most important factor is cost also.
Bringing a change in construction industry requires huge amount of capital investment as compared to othro industries.
To change the trend...as per me-
1.Making the people understand the importance of advancement.though it requires a large amount of money but many technologies can save time and money both significantly
2.Training labourers with advanced tools to make their work easier and safer
3.Government Attention should be given and funds should be sanctioned for advanced technologies
4.Most important factor for trend change is the change in the Mindset of the whole project team
5.Infrastucture approach of more developed countries should be followed.
