How, according to Lee and George, could someone argue that abortion is justified as non-intentional killing?
Argument that abortion is justified as non-intentional killing:
1.A woman is not morally required to allow the fetus the use of her body.
2.So from a moral viewpoint, she may expel (or evict) the child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion (or eviction) will result in his or her death.
What do they think is wrong with this argument?
The above argument is unsound. A mother has a special moral responsibility to her child since it is united to her. Thus, she must allow the fetus the use of her body in all the cases in which prohibiting this will cause a significant harm to her child. Thus, she must refrain from any act that could cause terrible harm to the child and allow her to avoid significant suffering herself.
