There is a decline in the elephant population in a specific area in Africa. You are an activist trying increase the elephant population. You are required to present a proposed solution to this problem. Create a proposal to solve this elephant problem. Please include the following:
Background Information. (Describe the main biome where elephants are located; describe an ecosystem, and describe 4 other types of biomes)
Name and discuss how elephants are threatened in Africa. (Research)
Discuss how biodiversity can affect the increase and decline of the elephant population.
Differentiate between the types of population growth models that can increase or decrease the elephant population.
Discuss how community populations relate to your proposal.
1. Answer:
Biome:
A biome consists of communities of animals and plants which had common characteristics because they depend on the similar environments where they live. Due to similar weather conditions these environments are created.
The elephants mainly located in the Savanna biome. This Savanna is a Biome which is found between tropical rain forest (consists of grassland with shrubs and trees) and deserts.
The Savanna elephants have long trunk and nostrils at the end of the trunk, thick gray skin is present to protect deadly predator bites, these weighs around 10,000 pounds and grows up-to 12 feet tall.
Biomes are of 4 types:
1. Holdridge life zones which was came in the year 1947, 1964. This was classified based on the biological effects of temperature and rainfall vegetation.
2. Allee biome type came in the year 1949. This is based on the principle Tundra, Taiga, grass-lands, forests , deserts, tropical plateaus, etc.
3. Kendeigh biome type came in the year 1961. This is based on the principle terrestrial forests, woodland, temperature deciduous forest, Tundra, grass-lands, coniferous forests, deserts, tropical savanna, tropical forest etc.
4. Whittaker biome type came in the year 1962, 1970, 1975. This is based on using two factors like precipitation and temperature.
2. Answer:
The elephants are threatened in Africa are as follows:
Pedators cannot kill the elephants, Adult elephants can be killed by only people. Homo sapiens can be killed directly by shooting, poisoning, spearing, snaring and indirectly by destroying habitat, depletion of water sources and blocking the migration of elephants. Illegal killing for the ivory and meat, to make commercial trade benefit. Due to lack resources also results in elephants threatening. Due to increase population and too much usage of resources, deforestation etc also results in elephants threatening.
3. Answer:
Maintaining biodiversity with-in the protected areas, high food consumption by elephants happens daily basis. When stripping of barks, major branches and up-rooting trees lead to deficient food for the elephants. This results in elephants will negative affect plant community structure, species, richness, function and behavior of elephants also changes while browsing the food. This leads to extinction of elephants preferred plants. This situation must be balanced; problem can be over-come by giving protection by parks managers. However governments should undertake the forests to avoid illegal activities and give complete protection to conserve biodiversity.
4. Answer:
Exponential growth: it describes that increase in numbers without any limits to their growth. This is possible only infinite natural resources are available.
Logistic growth: It limits to reproductive growth that become more intense as the population size increases. It will determine how much resources is present and how much population size should present.
5. Answer:
According to my hypothesis, community population should aware that how to avoid threats of the Savanna elephants, have to stop international trade in ivory and renewal process, IIIegal activities should stop and converse the ecosystem and natural resources, giving best protection to the ecosystem and using the natural resources in limited way.
Note: The provided answer is as per my knowledge may be or may not be 100% correct, but definitely relevant to your question thank you so much.
