1. Expressing an opinion may be based on facts or a mix of facts and perspectives on which opinion is based whereas defamation is a false statement that negatively impacts the reputation of the other. Opinions are not defamatory.

2. Methods to prevent the employees from inappropriate use of internet at work, other than filtering:

  • It is important to accept that it is not possible to cut the employees completely from their personal live, so a little access can be granted to them.
  • A granular approach can be used in which the bandwidth of the sites can be moderated, using this, the social networking sites like Facebook, but if they are slowly loaded, over a period of time, the employees will either rarely use it at work or avoid using it.
  • Discuss the impact of using inappropriate sites to the employees, like it might impact their bonus etc.
  • Completely restricting the internet usage is not a good idea, as it might lead the employees to use sites which might be a threat to the system.

These methods can be effectively taken by both large and small companies. Large companies need to make the instruction more reachable and stricter surveillance are needed . So, measures should be taken to intrinsically motivate them and make them aware of the ill effects of using internet inappropriately rather than completely relying on monitoring the employees.

3. Disadvantages of personal blogging can be:

  • Personal blogging can be time consuming for small companies especially.
  • If the blogs are not updated over a period of time, they can reflect not so good image.
  • The content of blogs need to be monitored, not to contain any kind of biases and controversial content.
  • Blogging does not bring you fixed incomes. As it is necessary that the blogs will be definitely accessed and read.
