How would I separate and purify 2 out of 3 of: 50% o-toluic acid, 40% fluorene, and 10% 1,4-dibromobenzene. Please provide the steps listed, a table of reagents/products, and a flow chart. I appreciate it and will rate with a response.
Reagents required for this purpose are:
1) 1M NaOH
2) 6M NaOH
3) 1M HCl,
4) 6M HCl,
5) 1M NaHCO3
6) Saturated sodium chloride,
7) Methyl t-butyl ether,
8) Ethanol,
9) Methanol,
10) Isopropyl alcohol
11) Acetone
12) Hexane
13) Toluene,
14) Methylene chloride,
15) Anhydrous sodium sulfate and some more solvents are required based on the crystallization .
Before doing the seperation add calcium hydroxide ca(OH)2 to the solution containing flourine ,so that the flourine bonds with calcium forming calcium flouride CaF which is highly insoluble.place the beaker in a cold water tub and filter off the flourine. After you separate the flourine you will have another mixture containing the leftover, it should look yellow as per the standards, please dry this mixture with anhydrous sodium sulfate. After the process of drying remove the dryed liquid, evaporate using a hot bath, or air through the mixture, you will get 1,4 dibromobenzene, that is why it is yellow. This is how you seperate.1,4 dibromobenzene.,before this add calcium hydroxiode ca(oH)2, so that the floourine bonds with sodium hydroxide and forms calcium flouride .
