GENETICS:
For each of the following indicate if the statement is true of transcription (T),
translation (R), or both:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ Occurs in the cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ Occurs on ribosomes
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ Template DNA is read in the 3’ to 5’ direction
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ Begins with the recognition of a promoter region
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ Occurs in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells
1.Occurs in the cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells -Both
Explaination- The process of trannscription as well as translation occurs in cytoplasm in case of prokaryotic cell because prokaryotes doen not have a true nucleus therefore these two processes takes place simultaneously.
2. Translation- Occurs on ribosomes
Explaination-translation is process of protein synthesis which occurs on ribosome.
ribosome is the main machinary in protein synthesis.
3.Transcription - Template DNA is read in the 3’ to 5’ direction
Explaination- The process of RNA synthesis from DNA is called as transcription.
In this process the template strand of DNA is read in the 3' -5' direction.
4. Transcription -Begins with the recognition of a promoter region
Explaination- The process of transcription begins when enzyme RNA polymerase recognises a promoter.
The promoter is the sequence of DNA to which RNA polymerase attachesOccurs in the cytoplasm of 5. 5.Translation -occurs in cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells.
Explaination- translation occurs in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells.because transcription occurs in the nucleus where DNA is present then mRNA travel into the cytoplasm and process of translation occurs in cytoplasm.
