The global average carbon footprint is 4 metric tons per person. Why do you think the US has a much higher average carbon footprint per person?

The average world temperature has increased by 2 degrees fahrenheit over the last 140 years. Experts predict the average world temperature could increase by another 2-10 degrees fahrenheit by the year 2100. What are 3 possible consequences that could result from this warming?

The US has one of the highest carbon footprints per capita in the world. What are 3 ways the US could reduce carbon emissions?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.The golobal average of carbon foot print is 4 metric ton per person,in the case of US it is about 20 metric tons per person,it is very much higher than that of global average and it is a critical level of carbon emmission. The normal atmnospheric or optimum level of carbon is around 350-400ppm(parts per million).

2.a, Temperature rise will continue- Due to high carbon emission ,global warming will continues to occur and it will leads to increase in temperature, and this rise in temperature will not be uniform across the country.

b.Lengthening of frost free and growing season-In US length of frost free season and corresponding growing season has been lengthening from 1980's it will continue, with affecting ecosystem and agriculture.More increase will occur in western US,particularly in high elevation and coastal areas.

c.Sea level will rise 1-4 feet by 2100-From the high temperature of atmosphere melting of land ices occurs drastically which will leads to rise in sea water.Increase in sea water level may leads to flooding and high tides formation in many areas.

d.Stronger and more intense hurricanes formation-The frequency, intensity and duration of hurricanes, have all increased already,it will continue to rise to an uncertain level .Hurricane associated storm intensity and rainfall rates are projected to increase.

3.a. Reduce personal transports and increase the use of public transport system,One of the major contributor of carbon emission is from burning of fossil fuels.

b.Use energy effectively and efficiently ,wastage of all the forms of energy should be avoided.Reduce the use of carbon emitting fossil fuels and use more renewable energy sources.

c.Recycle as much as possible, avoid burning of plastics and related materials which will cause increase in atmospheric carbon content.
