According to the inverse square law, an increase in distance will decrease beam intensity.

True False?

An increase in filtration will lower beam quality and simultaneously increase the average energy of the x-ray

True

False

Solutions

Expert Solution

1) According to the inverse square law, an increase in distance will decrease beam intensity.

Answer: True

Beam intensity is the number of x-ray photons in the beam.

According to Inverse square law , radiation intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance.

So an increase in distance will decrease the beam intensity.

2) An increase in filtration will lower beam quality and simultaneously increase the average energy of the x-ray

False

Beam quality is the penetration power of x-ray photons. Adding filtration removes the low energy photons and increases the average energy of the x-ray beam. So filtration increases the quality but decreases the quantity.

The intensity of sound follows a pattern commonly referred to as an Inverse Square Law as supported by the intensity equation for a spherically uniform radiation. Explain what this means using examples of changing distance such as doubling, tripling and halving the distance, and what that does to the intensity. Describe in detail one other physical phenomena that obeys an inverse square law.

True/False: Gravity is an example of inverse square behavior. A grindstone is rotating at constant rotational speed. There is a net torque on it. A lever multiplies a force but does not redirect it. On a rotating merry go round one child sits halfway out between the axis and the edge. Another child sits on the edge. Both kids have the same rotational speed. Angular momentum is a vector.

Use the inverse square law to estimate how the brightness of the Sun would change if you moved from Earth at 1 AU to Saturn's location at 10 AU (i.e., give a fraction or percentage, not magnitude).
