In impactor method, why not conduct outdoor air sampling on rainy or snowy weather

Solutions

Expert Solution

First of all understand what is Impactor Method

Impactor: An impactor is a device that classifies or categorised particles in a sample of air or gas into known size range.they are  used to obtain different size of particles in the range of diameters ∼0.5-30 μm.

To check the quality of air or AQI (Air Quality index) impactors are use.

Range Quality Of Air Risk Factor
0 to 50 Good No risk
50 to 100 Moderate Moderate ( Health issues)
Above 100 High ( Health issues) Lung damage

1) Rain helps  to remove several pollutants (particles/gas), it is important to measure AQI or air pollution during rainy season as well .

2) Filters are used in Impactor device ,which withdrawn the particles through a filter to collect. (Please check the attached diagram of impactor).

3) During Rain Particles are  surrounded by water becomes usually having larger  diameter, but the Impactor is limited for tiny and certain range of particles (i.e∼0.5-30 μm).they may clog the filters of impactor and also rain is acidic in nature thus it may absorbs the filters.that's why Impactor method is not suitable for air sampling in rainy and snowy weather.

The weather during a Bloodhound game is somewhat unpredictable. It may be sunny, cloudy or rainy. The probability of sunny weather is 0.42. The probability of cloudy weather is 0.38. The probability of rainy weather is .20. John Jay, mighty center-fielder for the Bloodhounds, is colorblind. Thus, if it is sunny, he has a 0.19 probability of hitting a home run in a game; if it cloudy, he has a 0.12 probability of hitting a home run in a game;...

In the town, the weather pattern has three categories each day: Windy, Rainy or Sunny. The weather pattern each day follows a Markov chain model. If it is windy on a day, the following day will be sunny for sure; if it is rainy, the following day will be rainy with probability 0.25 otherwise sunny; and if it is sunny, the following day will be windy with probability 0.25, Rainy with probability 0.25 and sunny otherwise. Spectroscopy Springtime weather in temperate climates is often unsettled . A drizzly rainy day can suddenly become sunny . Often this leads to a rainbow , when water droplets in the atmosphere spread sunlight into colorful arcs across the sky . The same principles underlying a rainbow are the basis of a powerful observational technique called spectroscopy , which is applied in nearly all fields of science . In this lab you will investigate the dispersion of light and interpret...

Relative humidity isn't everything. Why is it that outdoor air of 80 Fo at 55% humidity will feel more “muggy” than a 50 Fo cave at 75% humidity? What other parameter is a better measure of the actual amount of moisture in the air, and how do we define it? Then give two examples of when keeping close track of moisture in the air is important.
