Answer: Organoids are lab grown organs which closely resemble human tissues that are relevant for disease. Scientists are beginning to perform more experiments to explore how the virus replicate in host or even test vaccines and drugs against COVID 19. The commonly used lab models are vero cell lines which are derived from monkey kidneys and colon cancer lines, but these do not fully capture what happens in humans. Intestinal organoid experiments revealed which cells in the outer layer of the intestine are infected by the virus, contributing to gut related symptoms of COVID 19 like diarrhoea. ACE2 receptors act as an entry gate for SARS - CoV-2 we can't study this in rodents because rodents have different version of ACE2, this shows importance of organoid research. Several COVID 19 puzzles like how virus lives in human cell and how to block virus from entering them and only be solved through organoid studies. Tricking virus and preventing from finding the ACE2 entry gate is most hopeful therapy for COVID 19 which can be only acheived through organoid studies.
