Warsaw Pact:

  • It is a military alliance officially known as the treaty of friendship, assistance and mutual cooperation.
  • It was signed in 1955
  • The Soviet Union along with its satelite states created the Warsaw Pact.

Korean War:

  • The Korean War began on june 25, 1950
  • It was fought between North Korea and South Korea.
  • It was short but the bloodiest one as nearly 5 million people died in that.

Berlin Aircraft:

  • 394,509 tons (400,821 tonnes) of foodstuffs, coal and supplies carried by 689 military and civil aircraft - 441 US, 147 RAF and 101 British civil.
  • The pilots and aircrew also came from Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand
  • 200,230,415 km (124,420,813 miles) were flown during the airlift. A total of 277,804 flights.

McCarthyism:

  • McCarthyism is named after Senator Joseph McCarthy, who was a leading figure in the hunt for so-called Communist subversives.
  • Many actors, actresses, and writers were blacklisted.
  • McCarthyism started when senator McCarthy claimed that 200 comunists infiltrated in the US congress.

Cuban Missile Crisis:

  • It was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union initiated by Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba.
  • a Soviet-supplied surface-to-air missile downed an American U-2 plane, killing its pilot, Major Rudolf Anderson Jr.
  • Colonel Oleg Penkovsky, a Soviet military spy was a valuable mole.

Vietnam War:

  • Vietnam War spans 1 Nov 1955 – 30 Apr 1975.
  • U.S. and South Vietnamese Presidents were shot in 1963.

  • More than 3 million people (including over 58,000 Americans) were killed in the Vietnam War, and more than half of the dead were Vietnamese civilians.
