To detail the effect of adverse weather on the railway
infrastructure, and planning undertake to mitigate the risk to the
following
• operational railway
• planned engineering activities
Adverse weather conditions affect the railway infrastructure and
exert a major influence on
railroads. They affect the operating efficiency, physical
infrastructure, and the safe passage
of freight and people. Railway have to operate in a variety of
weather conditions and some of them are not suitable for rail
transportation.
e.g - Precipitation and fog lead
to decreased
visibility of signals.
- Flash floods can wash out tracks, and excessive heat can warp tracks.
- Crosswinds can reduce stability or lead to blow-over of railcars.
- Snow and ice may cause regional delays or shutdowns. e.t.c
Since these adverse weather condition are natural and unavoidable so we have to improve our system to mitigate the risk to the operational work. There are some measures that can be adopt to avoid these risk as given below-:
1) Improve weather forecasting technology so that can avoid risk in advance.
2) Improve the strength of signal so that it do not get affect due to bad weather.
3) Proper drainage system at railway track side .
4) High load bearing Soil beneath the track.
5) Risk assessment should be from previous data to avoid future risk.
6) Modelling of accident should be done in different weather condition from previous data.
