Expert Solution

value of l = 0 to n-1

value of ml is +l to -l including 0

values of ms for each ml  is either + (1/2) or - (1/2)

a.

of n = 1, l = 0 , ml = 0 , ms = + (1/2) or - (1/2)

hence , the set a is not permissible.

b.

n =3

values of l can be 0, 1 and 2.

when , l = 2

values of ml  are - 2 , -1 , -1 , 0 +1 , +2 ,

so, the given set b

n = 3, l = 2 , ml   = -1 , m = - (1/2) is permissible

c.

n = 1

then, l= 0

ml = 0

ms can be   - (1/2)

so, set c is permissible.

d.

n= 4

then , l can be 2

but when , l =2, ml can not be -3

hence, set d is not permissible.
