2. Surface roughness of a machining product is an
important factor
determine the quality of geometry. Explain the following:
a. Explain how the surface roughness measurement tool works!
b. Explain the concept of measuring surface roughness!
c. How are the surface measurements results stated (written
down)?
a. are different types of surface roughness measuring instruments are there i.e. profilometer, interferometer and so on. These are an optical or opto- electrical instruments.
Surface finishing can be observed by callibration. Job is placed below the sensor of measuring instrument by manually and then allow to measure or note the readings like roughness depth, roughness values, peak values in microns. If the values will be less or same as the standard value then, one can considered as good surface finish otherwise surface is considered as rough enough which will be finished further.
b. Concept of measuring surface roughness
By the optical or opto- electrical instruments the texture of surface can be detected by sensors which gives visual output or signal by callibration.
c. The main concept is if the parameters observed from the instruments are less than that of tge fixed values then good texture of the job is declared or vice-versa.
The different parameters helps to detect the surface texture.
