Expert Solution

(a) Human or animals have two portal venous systems,

1. Hepatic portal system - set of veins that carry blood from the capillaries of the stomach, intestine, spleen, and pancreas to capillaries in the liver. Part of the body's filtration system.

2. Hypophyseal portal system - a system of blood vessels in the microcirculation at the base of the brain that connects the hypothalamus with the anterior pituitary helping in transportation and exchange of hormones between the hypothalamus arcuate nucleus and anterior pituitary gland

(source mentioned in the figure)

As seen in the description and the figure it can be concluded that there is no physical connection between hepatic portal vein and hypophyseal portal vein.
