U.S FBI 2014 Uniform Crime Report analysis
Yes, a falling trend in the violent crime rate for the last 5 years in United States of America. There is a drastic decrease in the number of offenses committed. It shows possibilities of the offenses going to zero which is a good progress for the country stability. It is unimaginable to see this happening to a country.
No, this is unimaginable trend. The year 2014 from my own view ought to have many violent crimes which is in contrast with what I see from the statistics. This was the time most crimes had been committed in the city of Illinois and many cases had been reported. I never expected the results to be like this but it has made me understand that that year had few crimes of 47,663 committed in the state as compared to the previous year 2013 which had 51,956 of violent crimes committed.
Most countries in United States show a decline in violent crimes, the decline can be caused by decreased number of one or two categories with two other rising or can be as a result of the four categories falling in number of crimes committed in a country. With many of the countries showing a decline there some other few cities that show a rise in the number of crimes between year 2014 and 2013. The rise can be as a result of rise in one category or as a result of two, three or the four categories of violent crimes committed. Indiana is one of the country showing a rise in crime rate of +1.6 with its crime number rising from 23,627 to 24,099 in years 2013 and 2014 respectively. This rise in Indiana has been contributed majorly by aggravated assault showing a positive index of 5.5. Wisconsin has also recorded a rise of +3.7 and shows that the figure has been contributed a lot by rise in murder and non-negligent manslaughter crime and robbery. West north central is also recording a positive index with the number of crimes rising from 66,958 to 68,002 with the cause being attributed to all violent crimes except rape. Lowa, Kansas, Hawaii, Georgia, Texas and Florida are other countries showing a rise.
There are biases in newspaper coverage and other misappropriated news coverage’s which are not reflective of actual crime rates. Biases of gender, age, race, socioeconomic status, and relationship status which are documented in several publications is one of the evidence which suggests that such biases based on the above categories influence public perception of violent crime and victims. Repeated exposure to unbalanced and biased information appears to lead the public to perceive higher risk and also feel a greater fear of categorizingand falling victim to violent criminal activity.
Uneducated journalists on the news coverage and reporting courtesy to provide a balance and context in their stories may lead to more inaccurate information and poor planning in news coverage of crime and violence. This then will lead to poor presentation of coverage on crimes which will steer different perceptions on crime activities in different countries with diverse communities.
Different races, cultures and customs, values and languages also cause a difference in perception between different communities in all over the country hence cause a an act to be a crime in one community and not in the other community. Some communities take a particular custom to be in their lifestyles and yet the rest of the world take it as an offense.
Accurate crime data helps to provide a balanced and a context in which the reported stories may lead to more accurate information to the analysts and also careful planning in news coverage of crime and violence. Accurate data avoids negative public perception when they get the news coverage and it will help reduce different views being expressed from different grounds.
