Discuss in detail the main characteristics and values of an encourager, paraphrase, and summarization?

Three most important characteristics of a meaningful conversation or discourse are encourager, paraphrase, and summarization. They make sure that the listener is actively listening, understanding and preparing to act on the message that’s transmitted, especially in a human communication.

Encourager – This is used to keep listening actively and empathetically thus nodding the head, saying some verbal fillers thus encouraging the speaker to go on. This is really important because the speaker feels valued when someone listens to them feeling one with them.

Paraphrase – Paraphrase in a discourse is really important to make sure that the listener understands what the speaker intended to say. So, saying the words of the speaker in the listener’s words ensures that they both understand the information in the same way, if not the speaker can clarify it further.

Summarization – Summarizing the entire speech makes sure that there is an agreement on the spoken content and the action to be taken on the issues spoken.

What can you expect when you use encouragers, paraphrases, and summarizations?

I could expect the listener feel at home and build a proper rapport with the listener. The speaker will start trusting the listener and open up which would help the listener understand issues much better.

Explore why these are important skills to obtain for human service workers.

Today, most of the human services such as customer service, counseling etc. all need very good listeners. Listening empathetically, listening actively by paraphrasing and summarizing the speaker’s words will give them hope that issues are understood better and will be resolved quickly. It’s also important to run most of the businesses and services run successfully because everything depends on the satisfaction of the clients and customers.
