13. Naya is a healthy 45 year old female, 5 foot 2 inches in height, and weighs 140 lbs.
What intrinsic laryngeal muscles and laryngeal nerves are activated when she:
1)Cough :
Muscles
Intrinsic laryngeal muscles activated in cough are
Thyroaretynoid
lareral cricoatetynoid
interatetynoid
These have adductor action i.e; these muscles closes the
glottis and activated during cough and then vocal cords contract and shut the larynx
vocal cords next relaxes and the glottis opens by abduction muscle(posterior cricoatetenoid muscle)and releases air
Nerves :recurrent laryngeal nerve
2)Swallow:
muscles:During swallowing both extrinsic and intrinsic muscles cooperate to prevent food from entering glottis.
during swallowing intrinsic muscles closes the glottis are: addcution muscles - thyroaretynoid, lateral cricoarytenoid, interarytenoid
Nerves:superior and recurrent laryngeal nerves
3:Breathes quietly:
Muscles:posterior cricoarytenoid opens the glottis and helps during quiet breathing.
posterior cricoarytenoid is a intrinsic laryngeal nucle that shows abduction action(open the glottis) and helps in entry of ait through larynx
Nerves: recurrent laryngeal branch of vagus nerve
