Solutions

Expert Solution

Blood is a connective tissues.

There are 4 main composition of blood

1. Plasma: it is the fluid part of the blood. It contains water, proteins, nutrients, etc. Blood plasma carry digested food like glucose, etc. to the other parts of the organs and tissues. They also carry waste products from organs to kidneys, liver, etc.

2. RBC : red blood corpuscles (RBC) also called erythrocytes carry O2 by a protein called hemoglobin from lungs to other parts of the body and CO2 from other parts of the body to the lungs. Erythrocytes doesnot have nucleus and mitochindria to maximise the function of hemoglobin.

3. WBC : white blood corpuscles (WBC) also called leukocytes are responsible for immune response for our body. WBC are of 5 types neutrophil, lymphocytes, eosinophils, monocytes and basophils.

4. Platelets : also called thrombocytes are responsible for blood clotting and release of clotting factor, thrombin.

Oxygen-rich blood bound for the body tissues leaves the heart through the aorta, the major blood vessel emerging from the heart. It branches out to the arteries, which in turn branch into smaller vessels called arterioles (little arteries). These then branch into tiny, thin-walled capillaries. Blood travels slowly as the red blood cells squeeze through tiny capillaries. The radius of the aorta is approximately 9.8 mm and the speed of the blood there is 30 cm/s. A typical capillary has...

Assume the diameter each capillary is 10 micrometers and the speed of blood through them is 0.03 cm/s B) During a ventricle contraction, the average pressure pushing blood into the aorta is 100 mmHg.
